THE PROJECT THAT CHANGED MY LIFE
PROJECT OF OUR WORKSHOP
AUTHORS ARE ALEXEY VYAZMINOV AND IVAN SELVINSKY
Many years later, I asked why they chose me after all. The answer surprised me. All job applicants, when asked what they want, answered differently. Who wanted a specific salary, who wanted a flexible schedule, who needed time and experience. I was the only one who said “I want to work here”.
In the beginning, I didn't even have my own table. I was given a bedside table and a computer. I couldn't even put my feet under the table! And that's how I worked for about a year.
We had a huge hotel project in Astana. There were very few people. Then, in addition to me, they took Zhenya Bezrukov, with whom we still work in our workshop.
P.S. That is how one phrase changed my whole life.
After the interview, they told me, as everyone else, “We will call you back.” I have been waiting for this call for 2 months. I still remember the moment Ivan called me. At that moment I was crossing the road at Sokol metro station.
I didn't have the strongest portfolio and wasn't exceptionally talented, but I did have a number of abilities that were very much needed at the time. I had a very high speed of working. Now it even bothers me a little. I spent a long time unlearning how to judge the speed of work on my own.
This project unexpectedly changed my life. If I'm not mistaken, it was an examination session from the 3rd to the 4th year of the institute. I saw this project the advertisement for the search for employees in the A + A workshop.
As I remember: it hung at the Moscow Architectural Institute near the dean's office. I really liked the architecture and I finally understood where I wanted to work.
At the institute, I knew Katya Vyazminova and, having learned everything about this company, went for an interview. But… I didn't look too good – I had a severe hand injury. So I came to the interview with a bandaged hand.
